Title: Traffic Advice
Post by: James on January 20, 2006, 11:43:16 PM
Hello, I am new to this Forum, returning to Marple in a week or so, after some twenty years away.

I lived in Hawk Green for 3 years, back some 20 years ago, at that time commuted to Didsbury and always started my commute early, because one had too... to miss the traffic on the way to Stockport.

Would like to know if the traffic is still the same.. or.... don't tell me it is..!

And what would be the best commute to A-U-L

Thanks

I'm afraid you will definitely have to leave early still. I leave home between 6.30 and 6.45 am for this reason and I find that after 7.00 it's becoming hopeless!

Not sure of the best route to Aston-U-L as I don't got that way but I would imagine it would be to Bredbury via Otterspool to join the M60?

By the way James, you should have received an email to allow you to complete the registration process. If you follow the instructions you will be able to become a full member of the forum. Let me know if you have any problems with this.

Bredbury - M60 would be the normal route to AUL, but Bredbury is an increasingly slow bottleneck at peak times.  If this proves to be a problem, you might try going Compstall - Werneth Low - Hyde - Ashton as an alternative

Thanks for the information, I suppose I was being optimistic to think that the traffic through Otterspool would be any lighter.

It looks like an early start! ... but I will check out the Werneth Low route.

Thanks again.

I communted to A-u-L for many years. I can tell you that I found the best way was to go down to Marple Bridge, through Compstall, up Werneth Low, through and round Hyde (using the small bypass, not the main road past the town hall) and then through Dukinfield and past Asda. On a good day it can be done in about 35 mins.
