Title: Marple war dead
Post by: enchantica on March 01, 2020, 10:28:19 AM
I'm hoping admins will pick up this message and be able to point me in the right direction.  A number of years ago the men of Marple who fell were commemorated on the anniversary of their death with an article on the front page of the site.   My 3x great uncle, Robert Ashton was one of them.   Is that information about Marple's war dead archived somewhere so I can view it again? TIA

It certainly is Netty or @enchantica

In this thread in the forum: https://www.marple-uk.com/smf/index.php?topic=5874.0

On this page on the Friends of Marple Memorial Park web site: https://www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/wwi-heritage/marple-wwi-timeline.html

And on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MarpleWWI

To make matters even easier, here is Robert Ashton's card:

Your enquiry was very good timing!

I was just publishing news of a new article covering a Marple Schools WWI Roll of Honour that Robert is actually featured on too:

Good timing indeed. I remember being very moved to see the names of the fallen on their anniversaries.  At the time I wasn't working on my family history but now I'm actively researching again I cast my mind back and thought of Robert.   Would it be OK to use the 2 images you've shared on his ancestry profile (I will give credit to the Marple web site as the source? )

I also noticed a thread  (a few down from this one) for the Cheshire roll of honour.   Would it be ok for me to contact them with Roberts card so his picture and his story can be added there?

No problem if you credit The Marple Website please www.marple.website (http://www.marple.website).

Are the other two Ashton's listed your relatives too? T Ashton and TA Ashton?

If so, what happened to them, do you know?

I'm not sure about T or TA Ashton.  This is something I will look in to and let you know.   I've only just started to explore the siblings of my direct ancestors (this is so I can try to varify my links to my DNA matches on ancestry) Thank you for allowing me to use the card.  I've made sure credit goes to the Marple web site.
