Hello Marple - I wonder if you can help me? I am currently esearching my family history and I am descended fro the Jinks family of Top Lock. james and Alice Jinks (1803 - 1881) were my 3x grt grandparents. Their third ( I think)daughter Sarah married a William Suthers in ashton u Lyne and they had a pub The Trafalgar Inn in Ashton. John Jinks who was the licensee of The Ring O Bells and The Navigation was Sarah's younger brother. there seem to be lots of the Jinks family all around Cheshire who were licensees I assume that they traded around the area where the canal went. If you are a long lost distant relative or someone who knows anything about the boatbuilding business please reply to this! Thanks

There's a couple of JINKS still in the area.
There's a MARY JINKS in Romiley and a EMMA JINKS in Woodley.
Just do a search on www.192.com

My son has been doing research into his family history on his fathers side. He is a Sheldon and he is related to Catherine Jinks born 1828 who married John Sheldon in 1848 and they are therefore his great great great grandparents.

We are distantly related then! Catherine was Sarah's sister and I have a copy of their father James's will (from Top Lock) that mentions both of them. Let me know via this site if u would like a copy. I'm also on genesreunited.

just noticed there is an advert for the Ring O'Bells on this site and Catherine and Sarah's brother John was a landlord at this pub he also had The Navigation later on - thought u might be interested to know this!

Hi Karen
My son is really interested in reading the will that you mention. Our e-mail address is on our profile. (Leastways I can see it - not sure if that is because its my profile) Let me know. He is currently updating the family tree that we now have had to put on a roll of wallpaper. He has traced back loads of realitves from just one birth certificate. Now he has to start on his grandmothers side who remain a bit of a mystery (Pilkington - if anyone has any information - although they seem to be based in Hazel Grove not Marple)
Thanks
Denise

We also think the AJ Sheldon that is pictured on this website in the virtual tour is a relative.

Your email address is hidden from others Denise. The best way to exchange addresses is through the Personal Message system but it is easy to miss that you have a new PM because it doesn't pop-up on this software like it used to with the previous version. All it does is show a little number (of unopened messages) next to the "My Messages" menu tab. So I'd send a PM and mention that you've done so in a reply to this topic if you don't want to post your address here directly.

Worked out the message thing and sent a message to you Karen.

Thank you for telling me about pic of AJ Sheldon on the tour. Was checking my tree and I think the men in pic were probably the children of John Sheldon and Catherine Jinks. Noticed there are pictures of Wheeldons on here as well. A Sarah Jinks married a Wheeldon so there is connection there as well (This Sarah was not my 2x great grandmother but i think she was the sister of James Jinks b.c 1803 0f Top Lock House) It's all on my tree on genesreunited

Sarah Jinks and Charles Wheeldon were my 3rd great grandparents (through the Wheeldon line). I am interested in any photos and where possibly to find them. I wondered also if there is any info on Sarah's parents?

Hi
the pics of the Wheeldons were on this site on the gallery section. Not sure if they r what u after but I know it's always good if there's a possibility!
