Just for Fun, which is the best all round pub in Marple
considering atmosphere, friendliness, cleanliness, quality of drinks, availability of food and standard of service.
Also consider things like, behaviour, language and feeling of comfort and well being

you must descend the hill to encounter the best pubs, as marple bridge has them all (except the spring gardens which is inexcusable - lovely location/interior ruined by...well, I'd best not name and shame.  And the norfolk is best forgotten as well.)

Not sure about Marple Bridge, but it's true that some of the best pubs are not in Marple itself, such as the Sportsman's Arms at Strines (food, interesting beers, lovely view), the Fox at Brookbottom (unchanging old pub, great for a walk) and the Little Mill at Rowarth (unique place, good childrens' playground, also good for a walk)

I've had the opportunity to recently eat in both the Romper (Marple Ridge) and the Pack Horse (New Mills). Both excellent and well worth a visit.

The Romper mixed grill was so large that my stepfather-in-law (a man I never thought I would see defeated by a plate of food) has to throw in the towel before his plate was cleared.

The Pack Horse's new restaurant gives a much improved stage for the food which is top class and excellent vaue for money.

Well done to both pubs and keep up the good work.

The otterspool? where is that? Even a quick look at the pubs index will show that its the otters lodge. - and im not even sure it should warrant being classed as a pub! - but thats me personal opinion.

IMHO all the pubs in marple have their merits and compared to surrounding areas are superb. Their beauty lies in that they are all uniquely individual - the landlords/ladies all know who you are and serve you with a smile - though at over £2 a pint you can see why!

best pint of best - the railway
best quiz - the ringers
best in house mini brass band - the hatters
best pint of bitter which isnt robbies - the hairy hounds (dooley lane)
Liveliest decor - the bull
best dog walk - the fox

I could go on but you get my pint - i mean point.

Has the Pack Horse changed ownership? I had a very poor experience with the grumpy old gentleman who used to run it, but this was a couple of years ago.
