Web users can help Friends of Marple Memorial Park to win a grant of £1,000 from Stockport Homes to help preserve the Tree Sculpture in Marple Memorial Park.

The Tree Sculpture in Marple Memorial Park was created in the Summer of 2007 and the Friends of the Park have treated it regularly since then to try and preserve it and keep it looking its best. Unfortunately it has recently shown the first signs of serious decay around the base and the roots and we've been unable to halt this with conventional treatment. We've consulted with a company that specialises in the preservation of old timber by injecting it with resin. They even have a Royal Warrant to supply resin materials to the Queen! They have quoted a price of £1,100 plus VAT to inject the bole of the tree with resin and project that its life could be extended by 15 to 20 years longer than if left untreated.
This is an expensive process - mostly in the cost of the special resins - and the Friends of the Park could not afford to do it without a successful grant from Stockport Homes.

You can vote for the other projects too if you want - it isn't a competition for funds, so no reason not to vote for everyone else to get their money too!

If you'd like to see this great feature in our park preserved for as long as possible please vote for us to get 100% of our grant.

As a parent at this school I expect the weekly newsletter to be about school activities and not articles from third parties.
When the sculpture was erected in 2007 you should of looked into long term maintenance costs.
£1,100 plus vat, a complete waste of money.
I don't hear etherow bleating about the cost of repairing their large owl sculpture.
Memorial park is rubbish compared to manor park in glossop.
Too many benches dedicated from local businesses, 2 playgrounds that never get modernised with new facilities for the children.

I have a granddaughter at St Mary's and I agree entirely with red666bear. Marple on the cadge yet again.

Whilst I personally feel the money would better be spent on playground equipment, what I can't comprehend is the criticism of local businesses sponsoring benches which the whole community always seem happy to use. What would you prefer them to do - keep it as extra profit?
