Title: Chadkirk Cottages?
Post by: enchantica on April 10, 2014, 09:08:11 AM

Hi all - not exactly a Marple topic, and I wasn't certain where to put this post so sorry if it's in the wrong place and not exactly on topic.

When I was a child I lived in one of the cottages in Vale Road and I remember there being a small body of water over the road from the cottages which is no longer there.  Does anyone know what happened to it?  Was it just a pond and when did it disappear from the landscape?  I would also be interested in learning a little more about the history of the cottages but searches of the internet don't seem to come up with anything of any interest.    Does anyone know when they were built?   And last but not least (for now) My dad worked at the factory at the end of the road in the 1960s.   Is the original building still there or has it been raised to the ground and replaced?
Thanks for reading and hopefully any small bit of information will be welcome

If you have a look at the different maps on the Cheshire Tithe Maps (a fantastic resource) it seems to show a reservoir and sluices where the car park now is:
