Crikey.  83 miles is quite a journey for a fish+chip supper.

If distance is no object, I suggest the fabulous http://www.anstrutherfishbar.co.uk/ (http://www.anstrutherfishbar.co.uk/).  291 miles.

Maybe they are going to create an access tunnel under the newsagents into the vacant kitchen shop, to create a cafe.

Can I recommend The Halibut fish and chips in Bancroft On.  Fantastic portions and any delay sees the owner serving up snacks to go along with such as onion rings.  Eaten there a good few times when visiting.  But a bit further than Cheadle.

Ah! The first and fifth posts all make sense now.
Just spotted that Marple Fish Bar (at the end of Bowden Lane) is under new management (Whittakers). It looks like it is being spruced up at the moment, before re-opening.
Oh, and Bancroft On - I've just 'google earthed' it. Canada is a long way to go for F&C!! Do they deliver??

More importantly can you order on line.  No on line ordering no business.

Yes - dog sleigh delivery in Winter and moose power in Summer.  Failing that Wilson's in Romiley used to do a mean steak pudding.

Years ago we lived in Cheadle Hulme, and the Whittakers chippie there was excellent. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for, of course.  If this is the same Whittakers, we can expect it to be really good fish and chips.   :P

A chippie that is a) consistently good and b) open until later than 7:30PM (even on Fridays) would be good!

The Half Moon pub in Alford, Lincolnshire. They say "the best haddock and chips you've ever tasted". I agree    ( having sampled several times)!

Hi everyone!

My partner has bought the shop on Stockport Road, and owns the Whittakers in Cheadle Hulme too (Urmston has nothing to do with him!).

We are doing a bit of work to it (moving the range back, and a lot of things behind the scenes as well as a good scrub) and aim to open around 16 December.

Unfortunately we do not have an 'order online' facility at this time, but is something we could consider if there is enough interest in it? Suggestions are always welcome, too!

We hope you are as excited about this new venture as we are and hope to meet you all soon!

PS. We will be open until 10.00pm Mon-Sat and 9.00pm Sun.
PPS. There will be no tunnel to the vacant kitchen shop, although it sounds like a fab idea!

Welcome LT975

Good luck with your new venture in Marple

I, and my family, will certainly be calling into your chippy when it re-opens.

A website with a menu, prices, opening times, contact details etc would be useful (which you may be doing anyway).

Lily

Certainly to be able to order on line as I leave work and call in 20 mins later on the way home would clinch it fo rme.

Hello LT975
It's obvious the lifting, shifting and scrubbing work in your chippy (as well as the coat of paint on the front) has taken longer than expected - and it's looking good.
Just wondering ..................... will you be open on New Year's Eve?
Hubby and I will be having a quiet night in so thought a chippy supper would make a change from our usual NYE buffet.
All the best.
Lily.

Hi all,

The shop was much dirtier than we originally thought and not a lot of equipment was working so we have had to get deep cleaners in and spend a lot more than we thought on new bits and bobs.

The opening date should hopefully now be around 2 January unfortunately (sorry Lily!). Look our for posters in the window to confirm this.

Thanks for your continued support already, and Merry Christmas!

Called in last Thursday for fish and chips. Have to say they were lovely. Only negative was the chips were just wrapped in paper without a tray and a lot were stuck to the paper. Mind due less calories can't be a bad thing! I will definitely be back.

I popped in yesterday. Same comments. Good chips & tasty fish. Fish got stuck to the paper a bit, but overall, in the words of Arnie, I'll be back.

Marple / Marple bridge is lucky to have 3 or 4 really good chippys!

Thanks all!

We have noticed your comments, would you prefer all fish and all chips put in trays?

We appreciate your feedback, and will of course have a few teething problems! Suggestions welcome!

Many thanks

As per the other comments the fish and chips were extremely tasty! Same issue with everything sticking to the paper though so maybe trays would be the way to go

Mine too stuck to the paper but I think that's a small price to pay for a much more environmentally friendly product. Paper v trays there can only be one choice.

I would prefer trays if possible!

I'd be happy with my food just wrapped in paper.
My chips didn't stick to the paper.
A little batter did come off the fish - but, even if the fish was put in a tray it would still touch the paper at some point.
Perhaps the 'server' could ask the 'customer' whether they want their food in a tray or not - then everybody would be happy.

Paper for me too. Crikey, I'm agreeing with Wheels - that has to be a first!
