Title: Council Waste & Recycling Collection
Post by: on July 23, 2004, 05:28:28 PM
Hi,

I live on the Ridge in Marple and I can't seem to convince the council to collect our garden waste and recycling.  We get our normal rubbish collected by a low loader transit pick up because the road is deemed to narrow for the large wagons.  Fair enough.

The council say the recycling vans can not come down the Ridge and collect.  However I have seen on numerous occasions, the recycling van using the Ridge Road as a short cut through to Carr Brow and Disley!

Anybody any bright ideas about progressing this - it seems petty but if you think of the diesel I have to burn to take the recycling to the local tip and the fact I pay the same council tax as most then.....

Fletch.

Don't take it personally, the council won't even collect my green bin and I live right on Stockport Road in Rose Hill!  They also reclined my bin of recyclable materials on the only occasion I tried to leave it out for them.  It seems to be a completely fictitious service!  Most of my neighbours have given up on the collection take their own bins to the tip, but we do have the good fortune to live near by! :)

Richard,

How frustrating this situation must be for you, lets hope one of the elected representatives will see this and be anxious to cause for the matter to be put right.

Personally I think if you need a voice with any "clout" you should send a message to the Community Council, but I am sure they will catch up on your concerns

Can't say I'm convinced about the Community Councils 'clout' if their minutes are anything to go by.

First meeting for 3 months.
6 members in attendance, 1 visitor and no local representatives (councillors, Police etc).
No previous minutes prepared.
A number of voiced concerns but no actions planned.
No volunteers.
Done and dusted by 8.00p.m. (meeting started at 7.30p.m.)

Doesn't sound like any voice that would impress me, more like a talking shop!

And clever wording on their website about the credit for the Market St/Derby Way improvements? Surely that credit belongs to Marple Regeneration Group and SMBC.

Come on MCC - prove me wrong and do something other than talk!!!!

To be fair to Stockport Council, if you look on their website they openly admit that the 'green waste' collection service is restricted at the moment to (they claim) about 70% of properties in Stockport.  They say that they plan to extend it to the rest of us eventually. ???

Surely the Council only delivered Recycle Bins to the properties that they intended to collect from didn't they? i.e. the 70%. So if Richard has had one delivered to his house shouldn't he expect the Council to collect it?

Why don't you bring it up with the councillor who will be sat in the Library on Saturday morning.  Seems daft if you have a Green bin that it isn't collected.
