Title: Marks Spencer's
Post by: amazon on April 02, 2013, 02:51:16 PM
There's a new Marks Spencer's just opened in Glossop for only food near we're the lux lux factory used to be
That would be handy if they opened one on Chadwick street .

It would be marvellous news for Marple. But I fear the site is too large for an M&S food store.

Not really the answer for those who find the Co-op a little dear and lacking in choice.

Don't forget that the Kirkland proposals actually include space for two outlets. One "supermarket sized" and one smaller. So an M&S + Aldi, or other combination could be possible.

Anything of course is possible but this combination is much more than highly unlikely. The sales and marketing strategies of both these organisations are totally irreconcilible and it is hard to see how they would fit as next - door neighbours.  I may be wrong but does Does anybody know of anywhere in the UK where ALDI M&S sit side by side ?

As well as this M & S believe that they are so good that they actually demand and often get an appearance fee just for turning up in town. It isn't small change either, they demanded £9M when they were invited to come to Oldham. Oldham wouldn't pay it so they didn't appear. Stockport won't pay either. So all those out there hoping for an M & S in Marple - DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH.

My understanding of the situation is that those with influence are thinking along the lines of an alternative that offers more choice and more competitive prices than the co-op ( let's face it Marple Co-op is expensive) - just as Duke has said.

Lest we forget ASDA is not completely out of the picture on Hibbert Lane. It is not impossible that they could still appeal and win. If they do appeal there is a good chance that they will lose and just the action of lodging an appeal will antagonise SMBC in general and the Marple 6 in particular who will then really have the knives out for them.

Despite what ASDA have said about the TS site and the noises that they have made ASDA are still interested in having a presence in Marple.

So don't be surprised if they cancel their "possible" appeal and turn up on Trinity Street.

Undeniably true, I hadn't considered that one.
