Title: MBE medal to Marple resident
Post by: dascombe on October 22, 2012, 09:46:05 AM
I am looking to research an MBE medal awarded  to a Lucy Maud, Mrs Taylor on the first of January 1949 in the New years list, the London gazette entry reads for charitable and welfare work in Marple and Cheshire district. The only reason I can research this is that the medal came with the MBE certificate. any help or information would be most welcome. Paul.

I think the person you are referring too, was a lovely lady, small in stature and lived on The Ridge, and attended the Ridge Chapel, may be they can give you more information as I'm sure they will have records.

It would be worth contacting Marple Local History Society to see what they know, or what they may have in their archives:

Lucy Maud's husband Jack & son Jack were both chairmen at
Marple urban district council. You can see the list of chairmen on a board in the upstairs library.and i think Lucy Maud was once a councillor but i am not sure. but she was a very very nice lady. Ray
