Has anyone got any information or photos or know of any books that have been published covering the restoration of the canal in the 1960's/1970's
I live in Romiley and am aware that we came within an ace of losing the canal has a through waterway in the 1960's (when a big chunk of the Acqeduct collapsed) but I have found absolutely nothing on the internet which pictures/describes the restoration (which I assume includes the locks)

Hello Discosteve, I went to school with someone very actively involved in the local canal restoration at that time and he even roped me in once to his group of "navvies" doing the restoration work (just the once!). He kept up his interest in the canals as far as I am aware so could have some useful info for you. If you google in Tim Noakes canals or similar you should find him (he is on LinkedIn I believe). Hope this helps.

Also some good photos here:

Choose "Canal & Surrounds" and navigate through images. Page 8 has images of canal before restoration and continues with work being carried out.
