Title: Marple Councillors
Post by: alan@marple on December 05, 2011, 10:46:29 AM
If has been suggested that we reduced the number of councillors for each ward from 3 to 2, in order to contribute towards cost savings. It may not happen, but at least this would act as a an indication.

Just for interest

Hi Alan,

I do think that's a good idea in terms of cost savings, although we do run the risk of stretching the resources a
little to far and i am sure some councilors would want more money because they will be doing more work.

If it was done across Stockport it would reduce the number of councilors from 67 to around 45 (assuming 3 per ward,
i know some have 4). But if we work on 3 per ward just to get an idea of the cost savings, If we take the councilors allowance
for 2009 of £9,554.52 x 67 = £640,152.84 and £9,554.52 x 45 = £429,953.40. That's a reduction of £210,199.44.

Dave Cameron MP has said the government will reduce the House of Commons by 50 MPs from 650 to 600,
so it makes sense to cut the cost of politics at a local level aswell.
