Title: Damsons, free to a good home!
Post by: chicken lady on September 03, 2011, 11:01:14 AM
We have a real glut of damsons this year, and even after making copious amounts of damson jam, damson wine and damson gin (hic!) I still have at least 20lb of the purple blighters on the tree. If anyone wants some and is prepared to pick them, please pm me and I'll get back to you.

There may have been a glut of damsons but my normally prolific blackthorn tree has had all of THREE sloes on it this year. No sloe gin for us this Christmas then.

I live in Australia in Penrith NSW and I have never seen Damson jam.  My Mum used it all the time in baking especially Almond tarts and bakewell tarts etc ( my mouth waters when I think of them) .  That was years ago when I was younger and before I came to Aussie.  I can get all the other jams but never seen Damson, what a shame. I have been here 42 years now and will keep on looking.
        Cheers from Australia.
