Title: Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Marple
Post by: admin on March 17, 2002, 08:39:38 AM
A report in the Stockport Times said that a lady called Cicely Vaughan is trying to organise an event to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in Memorial Park in July JUNE.

Would you support this? What would you like to see in the park? If you have any ideas, or would like to get involved, then let us know and we'll pass the information on to the MCC, who are reported to be involved in the organisation of this.

What about other Jubilee celebrations? Is your local pub, school, or other organisation putting anything on over the long bank holiday weekend? If so, publicise it here.

Sorry, that's me getting mixed up. You're right, the Jubilee Bank Holiday is June 3rd.

The carnival is on June 15th, a fortnight later. The carnival will not be able to move forward, so it'll have to be a separate event.

The carnival is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year incidentally. The programme should hit the streets on 19th April.

The Webmaster omits to tell you (no doubt through modesty) that the cover of this years carnival programme has been designed by him. And a crackin job he has done of it too! :D

Not modesty, just keeping my powder dry until I'd seen it on the streets. Then I hope to be swaggering about with them best of 'em and you won't be able to shut me up.

It's also a coincidence that Rose Hill School is celebratings its 50th anniversary this year too. A good prgramme of events is planned - looks as if it's a year for "round number" aniversaries.

Anyway after that rendition of boring little spiels about who is celebrating what and when, back to the Jubilee party in the park, we would definately need a beer tent!!!

The following message is posted on behalf of Stockport Homewatch Scheme Advisor, Glenys Patterson, and relates to anyone intending to organise a street party for the Jubilee celebrations, although the discount rate may only apply to Homewatch Co-ordinators:

For  any of you who may be organising a Golden Jubilee street party in your area, you may be aware that the local authority has requested suitable insurance  is taken out. I have been advised by Steve Hilton of Ainsbury's (long standing sponsors of Home Watch in GMP) that they have a special Street Party policy for Home Watch groups at a standard rate of £52 for up to 250 people. If you wish to make enquiries on this, please contact Steve Hilton at Ainsbury's on telephone 794 1241, or email homewatch@ainsbury.co.uk

It would appear that you only have to Log In if you have previously Logged Out. Therefore, if you never Log Out you will never need to Log In again, it leaves the biscuit on your machine. That of course presumes that you always use the same machine.

All Saints School will be celebrating the centenary of the 'new' school (as opposed to the original two story building that used to sit in what is now the playground) this year .
Alastair may remember the 150th anniversary of the original school on the site on which work was started in 1838.
The 'new' church of course was built in 1880.

As soon as we know any details of the celebrations we will place them on the site.
