Title: Brabyns Park object

Anyone know what the round stone container was used for?   It is next to the road into the park, near the junction with the dirt track that leads onto the field and the road that leads to the car park.  The cylinder has steps as well.  Its beautifully made in two pieces of stone that have been carved into a curve.

If I'm not mistaken it is a horse drinking trough. It would probably have had a lead liner (the little cut out was an overflow) and the steps were for getting back on your horse when it had finished drinking.

If anyone's not sure what Peter and Denise are talking about, here are some pictures of the trough taken by Gordon Mills, who was also curious about its origins.

Thanks for the explanation Peter - I'll let Thomas know - he's always asking questions!  I wonder how many people stood on the steps and got head butted into the trough by their horse.  And your next question - how did it get filled?
