FIREFIGHTERS used a rescue boat to save a woman from a freezing lake at a country park.

The woman, aged in her 30s, suffered spinal injuries and hypothermia after falling into the water.

She was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for treatment.

A passer by raised the alarm after spotting her in the lake at Etherow Country Park, Compstall, Stockport.

It is unclear how the woman ended up in the water but it is not believed to be the result of an accident.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "She had fallen into the water about 15ft down the weir and was dragged along for about 30ft before being rescued by fire service personnel."
