How much is a pint of bitter/mild/lager in your watering hole?

Bitter £2.30 Mild £2.15 Carling £2.90 Fosters £2.75 in the Hatters. WHY?

Something to do with the price per barrel they are being charged from Robinsons. These are the minimun prices they can charge to cover their overheads.
Tennants could buy cheaper from Bargin Booze/Coop if they weren't tied to the brewery. How can this give them a chance of running a profitable business.
I know as I have been a licensee in a Robbi's pub - very difficult to explain to customers who complain about the price of a pint. What most customers don't appreciate is that staff need paying and glasses need washing and lights need to be on and they expect the pub to be warm and welcoming, and clean. The list is endless and they all cost money. I'm not trying to make excuses about the price of a pint but it really isn't so simple. We also have a lot of Robbi's pubs in the area - where is the competition??

Actually the competition - such as it is - tends to charge more for its beer than Robbies pubs.

Because I am thrifty.
I drink in the "Ringers" and am satisfied, but I also enjoy a pint of Theaxton's mild in Marple at £1.98
but it is not as posh as the "Ringers"

I dont agree with advertising polictical clubs near pubs,does that rings a bell?

The Club in question is a private members club , and do not opperate as a public House.They do not pay Business Rates etc.If they make a profit they are required to return it back to the members in the way of cheaper prices.

It does indeed! £1.98 a pint is tempting - but not that tempting!

I believe the price of a pint for Members at Marple CC is under £2 as well. A regular real ale is always available on the handpull, currently its Black Sheep Bitter.
Its only about £10 to join as a social member and you will get the benefits of watching some local sport too.

Frederic Robinson Ltd have decided to make no increase in the price of their beers,normally they review their prices this time of year.They are also encouraging their tenants and their customers to log onto the "Axe the beer Tax- Save the Pub" Website;www.axethe beertax.com to make clear to Goverment that pubs need a break from the endless tax increases(including the2% above inflation duty escalator).

Thanks for the link, jet. I have signed up on axethebeertax.com and it would be great if others who use and value our local pubs could do the same. 36 pubs are closing every week. We've already lost many of our local shops and post offices - if we lose the pubs as well it would be a real blow to local communities. Sign up now while we've still got them!
The site also automatically sends an email to your MP (i.e. Andrew Stunnell in our case) to urge him to support the Early Day Motion which has been put forward at Westminster, to persuade the governement to halt the annual above-inflation rises in beer duty.
To answer the question, Robbies Unicorn Bitter is usually £2.30 a pint. Other breweries' bitters (if you can find any!) tend to be between £2.40 and £2.60.

Anyway I was wrong - the guest bitter is £2.15! I'ver not noticed the pint for a single pint due to all those rounds I have to keep getting in!

Now the clocks have gone forward and the weather has improved, it's been nice to walk the dog on a sunny evening, and as ever one's footsteps seem to wend their way to some of the rural pubs we have on the fringes of Marple. :P
So here is an update on this all-important matter. In each case, the price is for a pint of decent bitter:
Fox (Brookbottom) £2.30
Devonshire (Mellor) £2.40
Sportsman (Strines) £2.50
Romper (Marple Ridge) £2.70
Quite a wide price variance there, with the two Robbies pubs the cheapest.

Theakston's black mild has been increased at the Con club, to £2.00 per pint

The Midland @ Marple Bridge has Adnam's Broadside @ £2.50, Thwaites' Lancaster Bomber @ £2.70 and Timothy Taylor's Landlord @ £2.90

Dropped by at the Romper yesterday evening, and had a nice pint of Black Sheep out on the deck. But it was £3. :o

We have just returned from a holiday (camping) in Denmark. Over there beer is £6 a pint (well 500ml actually) >:( . So stop whingeing!!

Blimey! You'd have to pay me 6 quid to consume a pint of Carlsberg ;D
Meanwhile, here's an update on my survey of rural beer prices at pubs around Marple (my dog knows the way to them all...) In each case, the price is for a pint of bitter, with the percentage increase since April last year, rounded to the nearest whole % (see post of 6 April 2009).
Fox (Brookbottom) £2.45 7%
Devonshire (Mellor) £2.50 4%
Sportsman (Strines) £2.60 4%
Romper (Marple Ridge) £3.00 11%
In the case of the smaller increases, much (if not all) of these percentages will have been because of the restoration of VAT to 17.5%, coupled with increases in duty. But the Romper's 11% looks a bit greedy..... :o!

just got home from a very pleasant couple of hours in the garden at the "ringers", nice people around including visiting boaters, nice beer and snacks, pleasant staff, a great atmosphere and a lovely sunset to watch over stockport, coupled with a couple of pints of Veltin lager........very nice!
