Title: A years supply of bin bags
Post by: karen on February 11, 2007, 02:32:50 PM
Does anyone know whether we are going to be supplied with a years supply of bin bags for our household rubbish at the end of March? I recently read about this in the local paper and myself along with others think this is a crazy idea.

Probably only a roll of 50 or 60 bags as they only seem to give us one bag a week nowadays (even though we have two bins)

Perhaps if we are to get a years supply,I wonder if the council will deduct storage charge from our council tax.

I have been buying my own for years.. If I can find it, I use the one the council provides as well.

Can someone please explain how this is such a crazy idea.. I'm not being provocative, I just don't get what all the fuss is about.

A nice tidy roll or packet of binbags.. rather than the treasure hunt once a week for the bag stuffed somewhere in one of the hedges?

Will the town warden have any help to sweep up the street, when the cats, dogs and birds have had a good go at two weeks rotten, meat foods etc.

Who has the contract to supply the bin bags??

What is the reference to two weeks made by Mr Mansfield? I can't see it mentioned in earlier posts. Are there proposals to switch to fortnightly collections too?

The problem where I live is that its impossible to use a wheelie bin from where my bins are stored now because of the steps/slope/awkward corners/narrow paths.  However I can put them at the front door where the green bin is.  So that will be nice for visitors.  Two weeks stink in a big (presumably) black bin at my front door.  Nice!

It would be good if all the money they save by not collecting the bins weekly went towards a more comprehensive doorstep collection of recyclable materials such as cardboard, plastic bottles and tetrapak cartons.  Not everyone can use a car to take their rubbish to the tip (a not so green method I know) so their bins will presumably fill up with packaging long before the two weeks are up.

The item Mr Mansfield posted was from Dec. 2005 and I'm sure I've read more recently that this is not the plan now.

Imagine if we had a council with Liverpool council's imagination... PURPLE wheelie bins!
