Title: humps on Hibbert Lane
Post by: on April 21, 2006, 10:27:32 PM
Is anyone else finding the new humps on Hibbert lane a PAIN in the backside?

The one just over the bridge going up towards Hawk green is dangerous I think, anyone else want to have a say?

If by 'its dangerous' you mean you have to slow down to negotiate it safely, then perhaps it is doing its job!

To be honest though I'm no fan of speed humps I have to admit but they do slow traffic down.

No I don't mean that at all, They are quite raised, and think they are dangerous. I think they should be like all other speed humps and go all the way across the road.

There have been several accidents by the bridge, by speeding cars, the poor wall on the corner of Ecclesbridge has been knocked down god knows how many times, so I'm all for the right humps to be in place  :)

They are 'half humps' to allow buses to pass without jolting the poor passengers inside. They are pretty standard on roads where buses regulalrly pass. I've never been entirely convinced by them as many cars can virtually 'avoid them' by weaving about.

The one just over the bridge going to hawk green is the worst one - it seems to be much higher than the others - and honestly seems to be more than just a traffic calmer - it's going to take someones exhaust off shortly.  The idea of calming is a good one - but I'm sure there are better ways.  In Disley - there are islands that come out into the road on each side, making a chicane effect - surely that would be a bit safer, and a bit more picturesque.

i think they should have been put from the roundabout to just pass buxton lane as this seems to be where the straight fast run is and the speed show seems to be  :alien:
