Title: New traffic recording measures?
Post by: Nick Heath on September 18, 2017, 08:11:12 PM
Marple has a number of newly placed high level devices for monitoring traffic by Intelligent Data.  There's one at the corner of Manor Hill Rd and Station Rd, one near the lollipop crossing in Stockport Rd and one near the corner of Winnington Road and Station Road.
Who is collecting information and why?

They are all over Marple at the moment. It's a traffic study by Stockport Council.

You can read more about it on the Marple Civic Society web site in their newsletter:

The reason that there are cameras and not just vehicle-counting strips on the road, is that it is supposed to measure pedestrian and cycle activity as well as the usual traffic.  Then the data feeds into planning, including Marple's own Neighbourhood Plan.

however, they are only at key points and only provide a snapshot.

These orange traffic intelligence boxes are dotted all over Marple.

There are at least 6 with two or three others newly setup within the last 2 days.
