just a bit of fun, but where are people's favourite places in Marple? I like the peace of the Memorial Park and Brabyns Brow.
-
Walking through the woods and along the river in Brabyns Park, early on a Saturday morning with my dog when there is no-one else around (apart from the squrrels which the dog chases).
Up at the top of the hill near Mellor Cross. The Walk up from the Roman Lakes is tremendous.
The walk dwon from Top Lock to Bottom Lock is fantastic, particularly in the summertime when there are lots of lock gates to help with as the pleasureboats travel up and down.

I like to walk up Hollins Lane in Marple Bridge up to the little playground and to sit on the swings and look at the view. Â Fantastic on a summers evening. Â
Not strictly Marple but I come over Werneth Low when I come home from work and I like the view as you come past the cottages and down to Compstall Road. Â Feel like I am nearly home then!
I am a view fanatic!

Some of my favourite places, similar to Howard's, are:
The walk from lock 1 to 16, but especially the Aqueduct at one end and Marple Wharf at the other.
The walk along the River Goyt in Brabyns Park, past Wright's Folly and up to the Iron Bridge.
The Keg Pool in Etherow Park.
And the Hatters on a Friday night!

I used to enjoy the walk from the top of Dan Bank, down past Marple Hall, then follow the dirt path down into the dale, stop for a while at the waterfall and a pause for refreshment at the cafe on Dale road
That was 55 to 60 years ago. I know there must have been changes made down Marple Dale by now and it's either become private property or overgrown for lack of use. Still - the memory is terrific.
Bri - in Edmonton, Alberta.

Also similar to Howard, I like the walk up Mellor Cross from the Lakes and then maybe over to Hayfield or New Mills if the weather and mood suits. Mood suits? Not mine, the 6 month old lass in the sling. Then again she's usually fast asleep...
What is it about the Hatters Mark - the fresh air, the exercise or the view?

I agree Denise - it's a great moment, especially on a lovely summer's evening!
As for walks, you can't beat this circuit: up to Mellor golf course - Brookbottom (pint at the Fox) - Strines Station - Roman Lakes and back home. Five miles and virtually all off the road.

Similar to everyone else....
I like walking along the canal by the locks down towards the aquaduct, and if you go further, you can go down the hill to Chadkirk - lovely on a quiet summer's morning...
The view from Werneth is spectacular...
the other hamster in the family is a Friday regular at the Hatters .....
