Samuel Oldknow?   Judge John Bradshaw?  Christopher Isherwood?  Or do you mean currently alive?

Must be Samuel Oldknow, done more for Marple than all of them put together, canal, roman lakes etc. I propose that his memorial is re-sited in the centre of Marple rather than being out of view in the old tower at all saints!! All timmy mallet has done is strike children on the head with a foam mallet!! ;)
