After 17 years I have left Marple for pastures new, hopefully Romiley, which I am told is "posher" than Marple- is that true?
One think I am doubtful about is whether or not there is a website as good as the Marple Forum.
Any advice would be appreciated
-
Only a Romiley person would tell you that. Ray
-
My advice: DON'T DO IT!!!
-
A quick look at www.police.uk reveals that Romiley suffers from nearly twice the amount of crime than Marple does.

-
I am baffled by your move Alan.
Please tell us why you've left?
What does Romiley have that we either don't have or not as much as Romiley?
-
mr stunell lives there could it be that .

Amazon,
God Forsaken!! or sacon no it's not its Posh!
Seriously though I am an old age pensioner like you and I needed to do away with stairs so I am hoping to move into a bungalow.
Andrew Stunnell I would not allow myself to be influenced by his domicile area and the only councillors I shall miss from Marple
will be Andrew Bispham and Sue Ingham, I dont agree with their politics, but I respect them both of doing the job for the benefit of the community.,
I shall miss my daily view of the beautifully developing trees on Dan Bank, I have really changed my mind-the contractors have done a super job.
I shall not miss the "Navi" The "Bull" or the "Pine", but I will most certainly miss not seeing my nice friends at the "Ringers"
I shall miss the Regent Cinema, but look forward to the shows at the Romiley Forum
I shall not miss The Co-0p one bit! and look forward to Sainsbury's and Aldi and all those many private shops
-
And finally, to all those people who have been kind and helpful to me and to those who have made my time is Marple pleasurable-Thank you
And to those who have not- bless you!

Members of my family spent 40+ years in Marple and thought it was a nice area but several years ago moved to Romiley and have never looked back. Marple is full of people looking down there noses at you and would rather walk on the other side of the road than talk to you........last winter I was walking along the hollins and an old lady tripped and fell over I stopped and helped her and sat with her for a while, but the amount of people that just walked past made me sick.....
Romiley how ever is a breath of fresh air.
-
would like to wish you well alan@marple, I know there are some who will miss you in Marple, but Romiley is only 1 stop on the train to visit. :)
-
I would like to wish you well too Alan and add that as resident of neighbouring Romiley you are welcome to pop back as often as you wish and let us know how you are faring. I'd be interested to learn what's good (and bad) about Romiley and how it compares to Marple. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a web site quite like ours though ;D
-
no one had a website quite like ours mark :)
Neil.. I don't know anyone anywhere in my life and in particular in Marple who would walk past an old lady who had fallen over! I cant walk down any street or park without saying hello or smiling at at least 20 people! ( my kids get very upset by that !) a lot of them I say hello to I don't know so...
Alan.. I 'll miss you too! On here and for the real life banter :) Though I'm presuming you ll come back and see us and tell us why Romiley could never ever possibly measure up :) I mean.. they don't have anything quite like The Ringers do they ;)
-
Mu goodness, Lisa, you have had a busy morning posting!! ;)
I agree, Marple is a very friendly place, and I am so pleased we came to live here all those years ago! Like you, I find that all sorts of people smile and acknowledge you in the town.
-
There is a web site for Romiley, not as good as this one though :)
-
Does anyone have a link to the Romiley Forum please?

Well, it's not exactly a thousand miles from Marple - a nice walk along the canal.

A strange reaction, Neil. How many people does it take to help an old lady? If I was walking along and saw an old lady who had fallen down, but who was already being taken care of, then I wouldn't see any need to intervene myself.
Not sure about the Romiley Sainsbury's Alan - it always seems very pricy to me. :(

Yesterday I also left Marple, after almost 19 years. I still work in Marple so now face a 45 minute commute each day! :o

Oh dear ! I think that you may have a change of mind about conjestion If I remember rightly you felt that the roads were not conjested in and out of MARPLE ? Well remember the schools are off, so if your journey here takes you 45 mins now, you can add on a good half hour ! Any way I wish you well in your change of area ! MM

Ta Miss Marple. :) I have moved to Levenshulme and could not believe the build up of traffic all the way to Marple this morning between 8 and 9am. :o Will have to leave earlier in future!
-
I feel really sorry for you having to travel to and from MARPLE , I used to work in Stockport and had to leave home no later than 7.20 to be there for 8-45. I hope you may now have some empathy about having a supermarket do you fancy joining MIA

Hi All,
Well I move into my old folks bungalow on Monday, but I will have to pay for a new waste bin for the kitchen as opur council will not supply me with one, as according to their records one has been delivered to the previous occupier who has now passed on. I explained that I had left mine for the new occupier at my old home on Lockside and was complimented on my consideration for others- huh- some good to me that!. I sked what Ward I was in and who were my local elected representatives in order that I could protest and seek sympathetic consideration- me being an OAP,
would you beleive they could not tell me so I said I would find out myself So I have written to Mr Stunell to see if he can tell me or support me.
"The Big Shed" gave ne the name of the forum at Romiley (WEBSITE NOT THEATRE) so I sent this message on the 7th July
"
I shall shortly be moving into Romiley and for many years have enjoyed using the Marple Forum and Website as managed by Mark Whittaker.
Can you tell me if you have any plans to form a similar forum as the Marple Forum
Regards
Alan"
StillUnfortunately I did not get a reply, perhaps it is no longer active

Alan, there is a letter in the 'letters' section of the stockport express and the free stockport times (pg 30)... councillor Sheila Bailey wrote about the bin charges... she suggests emailing cllr.shan.alexander@stockport.gov.uk to make sure your comments regarding the charging policy are taken into account.
hope this helps, and wish you well with your move on monday :)
