Hi,
Has anyone noticed how Brabyns Brow seems to have become a crash zone recently?
- A couple of weeks ago I came through the lights from Compstall end and a car coming down the hill had managed to go onto the payment on the opposite side of the road and demolish the stone wall at the entrance to the car park (next to the Midland).
- A couple of days ago another car going down hill managed to mount the pavement just by the station steps hitting the lamppost during the morning rush hour.
- Yesterday morning an empty car transporter stopped going up the hill opposite the church entrance it's wheel spinning madly and thick smoke pouring from them. At one point it actually started goes backwards down the hill!
My great concern is that many families are walking down the hill (mine included) to the schools in Marple Bridge and when will we end up with children being hit as drivers struggle to keep off the pavements ???
Does anyone know who I should raise this issue with and does anyone else know of other incidents on what is rapdily becoming a skating rink of a road ... and that's without the snow and ice coming??

The only advice I can give is to contact your local councillor, but it is unlikely that they will be able to do anything as it is probably the incline of the road that is the underlying problem. With regard to other potential accidents waiting to happen, has anyone tried to drive, or walk, down Arkwright Road at school time! Both sides of the road have Chelsea Tractors parked on the Road and pavement, effectively making it one way only. The pavement adjacent to the recreation ground has said tractors parked on it making it a no go area for pedestrians. Does anyone else have any potential accident blackspots?

As Howard so graphically shows, it's not an accident waiting to happen: the accidents have already happened - many times. Solutions are not obvious. One possibility might be to widen the pavement, maybe also putting in a crash barrier between the widened pavement and the road. But given the lie of the land, that would be a big and costly exercise - and see the well-known '17 Windows' thread on this forum to find out what some members think of spending our Council Tax on expensive pavement widening!
It might be worth pressing for a speed camera by the station steps at the top of the Brow - that wouldn't do any harm and might even help a bit.

Brabyns Brow is closed on the 18 october from nine till six in the morning .and then the next three week ends till the ist november . dont know what for it may be for tree cuting lot of trees taken down car park Brabyns near midland entrance . the notice outside the midland and near entrance to Brabyns tennis club . nothing on it says resurfacing though lot of work going on roundmarple bridge drains and grids being renewed . ready for the work starting on dan bank next year .this road will be a bit busy when that starts .

Well good news!
Spoke to the manager of the works taking place over the next 3 Sundays and they are resurfacing the whole of Brabyns Brow as the road surface is at the limit of it's life, hence why it's like a skid pan when wet.
So come Novembeer it should be gripping like superglue!

All done resurfaced anti skid at the bottom all they have to do now is keep the grids clear of leafs
