Title: Phone Scam?
Post by: Mr Mansfield on April 16, 2008, 04:40:21 PM
Had a phone call today at 4.30pm, caller ID showed international.

When I answered a recording said in an American accent

" Congratulations you have won a Caribbean cruise! for more details press 9". I put the phone down straight away, suspecting it to be a scam. I am not sure what would have happened had I pressed 9 but I suspect I might have found myself with a huge phone bill

Not sure but I think there are now predictive dialling programs which dial random numbers until they make a hit.

You are right Diane - these are just random number diallers so going x directory doesn't help. Also as they come from overseas they are not covered by the Telephone Preference Service.

I think the old advice of 'if you didn't' enter something then you can't win it' is the best. I think I win about 3 lotteries a week if my e mail is anything to go by!
