this is a real long shot. but here goes,at the end of the last war american troops were in lyme park.i dont know for how long or what they were doing there but they played a baseball game with the local children and were pictured in the local paper would anyone know how to find a copy of the photo thanks

The library in Stockport should have the newspaper on microfiche if it was a local one. It's simply a question of browsing through them all! You can book a microfiche viewer by phoning the library and they may also be able to give you an idea of how many reels you might have to go through. It will obviously be easier if you are able to narrow down the date.

American troops were in Lyme Park and Poynton Pool under canvas. It was the first half of 1944 prior to "D" day (6th. June 1944)
