I take my sons to the Barbers on Stockport road, a man called Ian cuts both my boys hair, and he is great (Its the barbers just after chus the chinese on the corner ), he used to have a lovely bull dog  in the shop that my children loved, but I think the dog was scaring some of the customers so he stays at home now!

He only loooked tough, but was a real softy, my children miss him!!

:)

it is across from texico petrol station. it cost me £6. there are two white gates just through there. i went to that shop that you say with the dog in there. he made a right mess of my hair. and a dog in the shop, thats a  health and safety issue on its own ???  ???

I'm just a little curious on why the dog was a Health and Safety issue?

Food and/or drink (for sale) wasn't prepared on the premises so was it cutting hair?

Obviously that would be a problem as dogs have no opposable thumbs and wouldn't be able to hold the scissors correctly?  :p

it is all about animals and flee,s tick,s etc. its a work place. where scissors are steralised. and other things, if you was haveing your hair cut and the dog came over and piddled up your leg would you be happy.? read a health and safety booklet then you will no why the dog is not there anymore probably. ???  :p

Perhaps it was the dog's health they were worried about?

I take both my boys to the barbers on Derby Way.  Always busy in there on a Saturday - go early to avoid a long wait.

If you like your barber's to come with a dog, go and see Pete and Greg at In Style on Stockport Road. Greg takes his dog in with him all the time.

Well if that is the case that is a shame.  No need to be so triumphant Newman.

I was surprised to learn that the barber on Derby Way has closed but I've made enquiries and found this to be true. I am told that the  business had been doing well and was especially popular with pensioners but there was a problem with the lease which forced him to close. A shame. I understand he is currently working in Romiley while considering his future options.

Also, and this is just my opinion, I think its so hard these days for a new buisness to do really well in Marple, Ive been told the rent is rather high on those units on Derby way, obviously I dont know for sure, put I would presume, you would have to have a little gold mine to cover rent etc to make a good profit.

I wish all local traders, good luck and best wishes, they need it.........

I'm sorry but i do not see the problem with the barber bringin his dog along to his barber shop! He doesn't sell food he just trims your hair for a few mins and your on your way! Plus you can always choose not to go to barbers who bring their dogs along for the day! After all there are too many to choose from! If it's an option he can afford then so be it!

Just an update for all enquiries about Barney Bulldog. He is 5years old now and retired from barbering. The Health and Safety people did go in the shop on several occaisions due to people reporting him as a risk and on each occaision was NOT seen as a H & S risk. For those who think he was....do you really think we would allow our dog to suffer with flees and ticks (i dont think so ) any way thanks to those of you who stuck up for our Bully. He now stays at home due to the fact he is a big old Lazy bully and cant be botherd going to work any more. Oh and he has a brother George to keep him company who is 2 Thanks Barbers Wife....

Awww we loved Barney!!

Ian has been cutting my oldest  sons hair since he was little ( about 4),  he is 14 now, we went to Ian after some hairdresser who used to cut his hair on the same road  told him he would  cut his ear off if he didnt sit still ... he was mortified, became hysterical and would not go back ( the hair salon has since gone!!)  , Ian sucsessfully picked up the "cut your ear off pieces"  and we have never looked back.  He has always been fantastic with my sons, and very patient when they were little ( been cutting my youngests hair  since he was a baby)  and if any one asks me where my sons have thier hair cut, I always reccomend him.

Ian used to cut my mums hair when he worked for a salon in Marple so I never look at him as just a "Barber"   ( ouch! how time flies, it was a few years back!) and now Im just waiting for him to expand his hair cutting  empire now that he works for himself  to ladies  so  then he can cut mine!!

Arrrrgh thanks for lovely comments about Ian and my Dogs:
He keeps talking about expanding but it just talk at the mo.... he would still stay in Marple though as you say he has been there for years so be silly to move areas.

Its nice when you find some one you like i well know as i used to be a hairdresser my self but gave it up about 15 years ago...i still do Ians though...

And Yeah Barney loves George and lets him have his own way most of the time, but puts him in his palce when he needs to.
