Title: fishing waters, where to fish
Post by: wardie on May 08, 2006, 09:32:01 PM
Re: "fishing waters, where to fish"

I never thought that a simple question regarding a large puddle of water containing some aquatic life could generate an entertaining short story.

Well done Susan and Heather.  I look forward to your next "epic adventure" :D :D

Bit miffed I couldn't get the last word though!

Thank you admin, for letting me have the last word.

Now i know that my mum has fed Mike and I for the last 25years, but even my partner of 4 years says that you need a hammer and chisel to eat at my mums. The grandkids wont eat her cooking either.  The 3 year old has learnt not to eat her cooking. and the 1 year old doesn't know any bettter yet. :)  ;)

can i just say something to my defence,1, sues partner doesnt eat my cooking because he needs a map to find our home,2 my 3 yearold grandson doesnt eat at my home because he knows grandma allways has the nice things in life i.e sweets and chocolate in the drawer for him,3, the one year old eats anything thats put in front of him, and sue calls for her tea twice a week, but i will say that if its not black and burnt its not cooked       and what do you say to that sue

They're under starters orders .... and they're off .... !!!

Better than watching telly!

By the way Heather, you say your "cooking" (sounds more like cremation! ) never did Susan or her brother any harm, however given how all this started ("Fishing ..") I'm not convinced !

And how either of you can bring pre-school children into the argument .... shame on you   :D  :D

Hang on a minute, when i come for tea, its normally the chippy anyway mum.
I have also cut down on the amount that i come for tea, its now only on a friday, not a tuesday and sunday, cause i am sick of chippy that many times a week and you also stopped having sunday lunch.

Heather, can I come round on Fridays for tea from the chippy as well?  Although it does depend on the chippy, I'm quite fussy.

Also, can my wife and two children tag along.  They're no trouble !

PS, I do have my own hammer and chisel if required

Okay if you start cooking tea on fridays i will be bring the hammer and chisel again. The grandkids need to eat something not just sweets and rubbish thanks mum.
I can't wait for sunday dinners at yours which means that i don't have to cook and i can get out of doing the pots afterwards. :D

I may regret this ..... fudge has a habit of sticking to pans and burning.  But looking at the posts to date what's new.

Try the link below - it even has piccies to look at and compare your results.

http://www.cookingforengineers.com/article.php?id=98

My advice is stick to searching for fishing pools.

Welcome Water Rat to this insanity  :D

I'm now trying to work out which is worse:

1. Water Rat searching the net for a Condensed Milk Fudge recipe.
2. Somebody posting a Condensed Milk Fudge recipe on the net, complete with photos of every stage.
3. Me actually following the link Water Rat posted even though I have no interest or intention of cooking Condensed Milk Fudge!

Maybe this should become a poll?

Anyway, back to work ......

 ???

HeHe I've been following this since Heather's first question!
Makes me laugh, Wardie I have to agree, I even clicked on the link in fascination to see how to make  Condensed Milk Fudge! I have no intention of making it but it does look yummy!  Heather if you make some perhaps you could send a slice to all your followers  :p   By the way next time you come for your tea at the chippy I will say hello! Susan went to school with my sis  :D

Aha! Can't keep me away!

Right, in a Heather Style:

One: I am based from home - commute time is 12 seconds to get to the office through the kitchen!
Two: Discount on chips (and haddock) sounds very good, do I need to quote a secret password???  :D
Three: This does seem to be turning into a lunatic asylum! Tina - run away!

Heather, are you now thinking of having the Condensed Milk Fudge with a bag of discounted chips?

PS, I agree Goyt Mill chippy is the best in Marple.
PPS, We seem to have come full circle - from fishing waters to fish and chips!

Heather, well occassionally I do go "out" to work, but it is certainly much easier to stay "in" to work! If fact I'm out over the next couple of days, so I hope you all don't miss me tooooooo much  :D

I was in the chippy this lunch time (must have been all this talk of food!;), disappointed that there was no haddock, but lovely f&c anyway.  Now my wife comes from Yorkshire, where haddock, not cod, is the norm, why is that?
Title: fishing waters, where to fish
Post by: Water Rat on May 17, 2006, 11:48:49 AM
Haddock v cod ..... it gets worse.

My back up team of research assistant, librarian and catering manager onthe East Coast of Yorkshire suggest:

Possibly because haddock was easier to obtain fresh - cod needed to be salted for storage and travel at one time - closer to source in East Coast fishing ports

Maybe because it was cheaper (Obviously heard things about Yorkshire folk!;)

Does it make a difference they are both members of the cod family and they all look the same battered

Anyway the general opinion is we prefer Hollands steak puddings instead!

Post by: wardie on May 17, 2006, 09:43:29 PM
Water Rat, thanks for the research, but oh dear, oh dear, oh dear ....  Hollands Pies .....

Sorry, but if you're in a chippy, it has to be fish and chips, and yes, haddock is prefered over cod, the texture is different.

As for pies, then Archers Meat, or Steak Pies are unsurpassed in my very very humble opinion.

 :)

Good morning.... i seem to think that we have got of the subject of fudge and gone on to chippy.

My mum thinks that i am eating her cooking on fridays she has a another thing coming.  Anyway she can cook when the fire alarm goes off we know that tea is ready. My brother will also tell you the same, but saying that all our friends use to come for tea, we would just bring people home for tea, then when she had cooked somthing we would tell her that they were veggie, i had one friend that would only drink orange juice and every time my mum would make them a cup of tea.. so really we were nasty to my mum in that sense,
I also think that my brother thought that the house was a cafe because it used to be the meeting place for all his mates they would be 10 people in the kitchen/dinningroom. The coffee and crisps would be gone everynight. Anyway better go and sort the breakfast out for everyone. :D

thanks sue, you and mike were never nasty you were just teenages and we never minded you bringing your friends home for tea or sitting in the dinning room all night drinking coffee and eating crisps  because a wise parent knows where their children are (not that im that wise but it was easier knowing where you both were,) anyway back to the good stuff archers meat and potato pies and bread and best butter and you have a meal fit for a king, so now we have sorted out the best chippy and the best pies wheres the best sweet shop

The best sweet shop has to be Simms newsagents!  They still sell by the quarter!!  :)

P.S  Much prefer fish to pie!

Well I've not been around for a few days, but I'm glad to see the "discussion" is continuing.  I am wondering if this has now become more of a therapy session for Heather and Susan

 :D

Now I must ask - Heather, how did you manage to post at 9pm last night, when all of Marple and Marple Bridge was in darkness?  We were forced to get a take-away from the Thai restaurant in High Lane -  mmmmmm   yum yum!

Glad you appreciate Archers as well Heather, even if you can't cook

Sweet shops aren't my thing, so I'm steering clear of that one.

Susan,  what were you doing posting at 07:38?????  Bit keen?

It seems that a Friday night chippy is the normal thing in Marple!

Is it just me, or is Friday night not Chinese night?!

Post by: heather on May 20, 2006, 02:29:04 PM
we had electric on thursday night  but  a lot of the houses nearby didnt  pity it wasnt a clear night  the stars would have been amazing.
i dont like chinese so it is mostly the chippy if we are having a take away
sue we had chippy on friday because we had been running about all afternoon and i was all stressed out, so yes wardie this proberly is therapy for me
not only do simms sell sweets by the quarter but the couple that run the shop are diamonds  marple should have more little shops like that
back to the electric there is a genarator near where i live so im not sure if we are back on mains or running of that

Yeah right running around all afternoon, what she doesn't say is that she left myself and her grandchildren in the car for 15 minutes while she had a cup of coffee at the undertakers. So what do you say to that then.
