Tina,

Just thought it might be an idea to reply from the carnival with ref to the floats we would love to have loads more of them in the carnival but alot of people are being put off by red tape  (insurance) which is now alot of money an stops the organisations from taking part.

This year we did not have many queens one problen we think is that there were alot of other events on the same day.

The price of the funfair rides are not set by us but by the owners of the rides and I think they may get some guidence from the showmans guild.

Anyway enough of that THANKS TO EVERYBODY WHO SAW THE PARADE CAME INTO THE PARK AND I THINK A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.

thanks for that admin,
I think the fair grounds are cruel those poor little fish stuck in a little poly bag in the blazing sunshine. Then when won dragged around the fairground with all the noise, no wonder they die so quick! Fish are very delicate and all that stress is not good for them.

(Rachael i'm not refering to you or your children there "dragged around the fairground"   i'm sure little 'carnival' was treated very well by your family, and I hope he has a very happy long life.)  '<img'>

I thought that too, but I've just found this on the "Practical Fishkeeping" web site:

Fairground goldfish will remain legal
The Government has dropped plans to ban goldfish being given away as prizes at fairgrounds.

The draft Animal Welfare Bill was originally going to make it illegal to give away goldfish as fairground prizes, however, Environment Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, has now dropped this from the new legislation.

The Telegraph says that Hewitt bowed to pressures from fellow ministers who feared that introducing the ban on goldfish as prizes would expose the Government to accusations of running a nanny state.

Instead, the new Animal Welfare Bill will allow goldfish to be given away as prizes to children if they are accompanied by someone over the age of 16.

However, several local authorities had already enforced local bans on the use of goldfish as prizes.

In September 2003 Practical Fishkeeping reported that three Hampshire local authorities had banned the use of goldfish as prizes due to pressure from animal rights protesters.

Shortly after, we reported that Liverpool council had followed suit.

Practical Fishkeeping's Technical Editor, Matt Clarke, said: "The fishkeeping world will be very disappointed that this has been dropped from the proposed Animal Welfare Bill. The majority of goldfish won as prizes at fairs are kept in inappropriate conditions before they are won, and inevitably suffer when they finally reach home.

"Goldfish should never be kept in unfiltered aquariums or bowls, and must always be placed in properly dechlorinated water.

"Hopefully, local authorities will take note and ban the giving of pets as prizes in their areas."

Well Tina, as soon as "Carnival" was "rescued" from the claws of some money grabbing mean fairground man, he was zoomed home as fast as my little boys legs would carry him!!!

Today, he has perked up, he has not floated to fishy heaven......yet!!!

Maybe one of my poems would spur him on, what do you think?

We stood near the Otters pub, the atmosphere was lovely.
We went up to the memorial park, the rides were pricey, not fair really when  you have 2 or three children.

I gave my son a bit of money before we went, and told him that once its gone, its gone ,dont ask for any more!!!!

My youngest son won a goldfish on the hook a duck (2 pound a go.....cheaper in the pet shop!!!!'<img'>, and he was very pleased with himself (he is only four), now, I did warn him that often fishes from fairgrounds often go to sleep very quickly!!!, but the good news is...........

FISHY IS STILL ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

HOOOORAY!!!!!

I will give you an update though in a few days though, to see if my fishy tale has a sad ending!!!!

shame more floats, bands & organisations didn't take part.
well done to all those who did you all looked very colourful.
shame the fun fair in the park was expensive but kids still enjoyed it.
