I'm not putting the magnet anywhere near it again! so I think i'll just wait and see if it corrects itself, it's a fairly new tv. I think we got it 2 or 3 years ago.
But thanks for the input, anyone else?   '<img'>

A magnet distorts the picture as it distorts the path of electrons flowing from the electron gun towards the screen inside the tv. As electrons are negatively charged particles, their motion is distorted by a magnet. So it is these electrons, not photons, which are distorted by the magnet.

On older tvs, damage caused by holding a magnet too close to a tv could be permanent; newer tv's tend to have a demagnetisation process when you switch them on, to ensure that the picture is not permanently distorted.

I did the same thing to my TV when i was 20( '' ) I eventually got rid of the 'blob' by further experiments with the magnet.. I like to think that I was really clever and just kind of reversed the polarity of the magnet.. (it probably just cured it self!! )
meh

This often happens when you put an unshielded speaker near a tv. It usually goes away after a while - so hopefully you'll be lucky.

I'd recommend having the child adopted to stop things like this happening again. That's what I should have done when mine did it. Instead they're now 23 and 21 and still at home!

My little boy was playing with a magnet this morning, experimenting to see what was magnetic.
No problem there you might think, well it wasn't a problem until he decided to see if the tv was too!!!  Now I have a purple/blue semi circle at the left hand side of the screen.
Can anyone tell me if it will be there to stay or go with time?
