The reason it isn't being used is because it isn't suitable for Commuting cyclists, and not only them. Anyone with a wheeled vehicle such as a pushchair or mobility scooter is put off by the Council's usual insistence on providing a soft surface. Wouldn't it be great if Marple became know as the place where the disabled can access theCountryside.
Now they have introduced a surface more suitable for everyone on part of the Bridleway between Roman Lakes and Strines it is time we pressured Stockport into providing the same on the Middlewood Way and Alan Newton Way
The Government is trying to encourage more people to cycle for health and reducing pollution reasons but Stockport makes no attempt to follow Government wishes nor to follow guidelines on catering for cycling.
A similar route near Derby, treated properly, resulted in people choosing to cycle to work, and there was an increase in property values nearby just because it was there.
