But isn't that the nature of the democratic process.  You pop up and say I believe this......others are entitled to challenge that view.

If you ere ever to get elected to anything you would find it much more robust.

As a local campaigner it would be useful if you organised a campaign to encourage people to cut their hedges back there are many round and about which are growing out encroaching the pavement making it difficult for people to use the pavements particularly  those with mobility problems and buddies.
It doesn't need a campaign. The Highways Act 1980 clearly states that it is the responsibility of the owner of the hedge to cut it back if it is over-hanging the pavement or any public right of way.

Which reminds me........

I use the new cycleway regularly on my commmute from Marple to Hyde, and often see other cyclists on it. It would be better if the surface were harder, though.

The reason it isn't being used is because it isn't suitable for Commuting cyclists, and not only them. Anyone with a wheeled vehicle such as a pushchair or mobility scooter is put off by the Council's usual insistence on providing a soft surface. Wouldn't it be great if Marple became know as the place where the disabled can access theCountryside.

Now they have introduced a surface more suitable for everyone on part of the Bridleway between Roman Lakes and Strines it is time we pressured Stockport into providing the same on the Middlewood Way and Alan Newton Way

The Government is trying to encourage more people to cycle for health and reducing pollution reasons but Stockport makes no attempt to follow Government wishes nor to follow guidelines on catering for cycling.

A similar route near Derby, treated properly, resulted in people choosing to cycle to work, and there was an increase in property values nearby just because it was there.

I note the Civic Society frequently mentions Cycling and that it should get better recognition as being part of the transport system.

The Middlewood Way and Alan Newton Way should be a cyclists commuter route into Stockport and even Manchester. The problem is the surface is unsuitable for commuting cyclists - this Council has always said that Horses have to take precedence over others and so a soft surface has to be provided.

Recently the Council was involved in the resurfacing of the track beyond Roman Lakes and a surface has been put down that is specifically designed for horses and should be acceptable for cyclists,  so I wonder if we can persuade the Civic Society to get the Middlewood Way and Alan Newton Way surfaced with the same material.

@amazon have you actually read the report?

You have been most impolite towards me on this forum when I have expressed my view

Self appointed. Not accountable.  Not elected are words that spring to mind when thinking of Civic Societies.

You have been most impolite towards me on this forum when I have expressed my views on the A6-M60 bypass and other transport issues.  You have even created a new term of derision for those of us campaigning against the bypass - "bluebell pickers".  (I'm fairly confident that most of us prefer to see the bluebells growing in their natural environment and don't pick them by the way.)

It transpires that you are a paid up member of a society that has produced a response compatible with the opinions of us "bluebell pickers".

You better watch out- you'll be joining the Green Party soon!
It still needs building and hopefully it will be Bluebells or no Bluebells . if it does not go through maybe someof the land can be built on for housing .as to joining your lot no thank you .i joined the civic some ten years ago i dont agree with some of there ideas they object or did to most planing aplications .they have Grand ideas which nothing comes of them .for a fiver a year its not worth cancelling my direct debit .Bye for now .
