Just want to say thank you to the volunteers at Marple Library who have hosted Ludworth Primary School five visits to this exhibition.  They did a great job and were very informative.  The children got a lot out of it. Its worth a look in the last few days of the exhibition.

Today Friends of Marple Memorial Park have installed a display in the centre of the circle bed in the park to commemorate WomensWork100. It has been created in partnership with Equality Matters Marple and we hope it will help promote their exhibition being launched on 30 June at Marple Library. The bed is planted in purple, white and green flowering plants that should start blooming soon and we have more to go in too during future task days.

Women's Work 100 Exhibition

1918 was a big year. It was the end of the First World War and the year in which (some) British women were allowed to vote for the very first time.

The Equality Matters Marple exhibition, WomensWork100, tells the remarkable stories of Marple women and their contribution to the War and the Suffrage Movement.

The free exhibition, which will be open to visitors at Marple library from June 30th until July 13th, will explore women who campaigned for the vote and will show the breadth of women’s roles in the First World War. They worked in factories and hospitals, in homes and on farms. They were activists and trailblazers, and their political activism, front-line service and home front experiences deserve to be celebrated.

Marple Wonder Women

Exhibition curators Margaret Hayes and Katie Potter have uncovered some truly fascinating local stories. Four names emerged as particularly extraordinary in terms of their contribution to either the First World War, the Suffrage Movement, or both.

Come and meet our four Marple Wonder Women: Gertrude Powicke, Lilla Brockway, Fanny Hudson and Mary Leonard, and find out how their courage and sacrifices have helped shape our world.

This exhibition is part of WomensWork100, an initiative of the First World War Centenary Partnership, led by Imperial War Museum. It has been made possible thanks to the generous funding of the Women’s Vote Centenary Grant Scheme. The exhibition will launch officially on Saturday at 10am with a tea party in celebration of equality. EqualiTeas is a national celebration of democracy, as we look back at 90 years since the passing of the Representation of the People Act 1928.
