Stockport Hydro Environmental Challenge 2018 Winners..........

Following last week's award ceremony we now have a photo of the 2018 Challenge winners receiving their awards: Jolly representatives of Stockport schools and community groups received their cheques from Chairman Ben Alexander at the Hydro on the 7th of March. A fund of £2,000 has been created through the sale of renewable energy, generated on the River Goyt at Otterspool.

And the winners are…

Tithe Barn, Moorfield, Warren Wood, Alexandra Park and Romiley Primary Schools received contributions to forest school areas, outdoor clothing, wildlife and gardening projects.

Gardening and food growing projects, Your Local Pantry in Bridgehall, Signpost Stockport for Carers and We G.R.O.W at Woodbank, received contributions to resources help people grow their own food.

The Friends of Etherow Park and Friends of Tangshutt received contributions to attract more wildlife and enable the purchase of a tent for shelter during community events.

Walthew House received a contribution towards their aim of changing over to LED lighting therefore creating a brighter environment, saving costs and energy.

Marple Sports Club, contribution to improving access to their premises with a ramp for the many community groups that now use the club.

Another successful year at Stockport Hydro as 12 local projects benefit from the 2018 Environmental Challenge Award

Representatives of the projects will receive their awards at 10.00 am on 7th March 2018 at Stockport Hydro at Otterspool.
The fund of £2,000 has been created through the sale of renewable energy, generated on the River Goyt. Awards will be presented to:
  • Tithe Barn Primary School for tools and equipment for their forest school area.
  • Moorfield Primary School, contribution to their forest schools site.
  • Your Local Pantry/Stockport Homes, herb kits and compost bin enabling people to grow their own food.
  • Alexandra Park Primary School, contribution to a sensory garden.
  • Romiley Primary School, for outdoor clothing, ensuring all children can take part.
  • Signpost Stockport for Carers, seeds and tools for the new gardening group.
  • Warren Wood Primary School, bird watching and pond dipping resources.
  • Walthew House, contribution to changing over to LED lights.
  • Friends of Tangshutt, a gazebo for community events.
  • Marple Sports Club, a ramp to improve access for community groups.
  • We G.R.O.W at Woodbank, a contribution to compost and seeds, helping people grow their own food.
  • Friends of Etherow, to purchase Bird Feeders in an area accessible for everyone.
Stockport Hydro is run entirely by volunteers and produces power that is fed directly into the National Grid. This creates an income that maintains the scheme, pays a return to investors and the Environmental Challenge fund.  Over the anticipated 40-year life of the project, the scheme expects to save over 100,000 tonnes of CO2.
