Marple Town Centre Defibrillator News 16 May 2018

The Marple Town Centre Defibrillator has now been installed. We'd like to send a big thank you to electrician Mike Beese of TBG INSPECTION SERVICES (pictured below) for providing installation support to the Marple Town Centre Defibrillator Project.

The Defib is waiting for registration with the NW Ambulance Services before it can go into service (at which point the out-of-service sign will be removed). Once active a call to NWAS on 999 will get you the access codes if they agree that you need to use it.

Marple Town Centre Defibrillator News 25 April 2018

After protracted discussions with a variety of local businesses and landlords we are delighted to report that a location for the new Marple Town Centre Defibrillator has at last been agreed and it will shortly be installed on the front of the Regent Cinema.

It's been a lengthy process to find the most suitable location – much longer than it took to raise the money thanks to some very generous local people - but after considering potential sites between Rose Hill and Possett Bridge, and drawing lots of circles on maps, we've chosen the most prominent location that satisfied all the requirements.

We'd like to say a very big thank you to the owners of the Regent, who have been very positive and quick to support the project. We look forward to having a little celebration once the defibrillator is installed and commissioned to thank everyone who has supported the Appeal.

Other recent news is that the scheme operated by estate agent Julian Wadden enabling sellers to donate a proportion of the commission on the sale of their properties to the defibrillator's maintenance has provided its first contribution of £122. This will cover maintenance costs well into a second year.

You can read more via the link below about how the defibrillator project has been funded by donations from Marple Area Committee, Stephanie Lorusso (of Malcolm Shaw & Son), GT Landscapes and Construction, Marple Civic Society, the Marple Website, Shop Local Club Card and Julian Wadden.

I wasn't having a dig.

The other thing to do is get the location of the equipment added to Google Maps. I just tried it and found the nearest one in Maps is in Romiley on the wall outside the Forum entrance. It shouldn't be too hard to get the Marple ones added.
Marple Bridge has had one in the old telephone kiosk for quite a long time

It's frustrating though, have tried GoodSam Alerter and that doesn't have any Marple Defibs listed. Maybe will do something on the new site just for Marple.

Have been advised by Marple Firefighters that their Defib is now active as of today. It's on the front of the Fire Station.

Also learned that there is one at Marple Golf Club (open hours only) and there is to be a public access one installed at Brabyns Preparatory School soon.

I will add these to the list we have at the bottom of the Defib Appeal page and then look at putting them on a map.

That's now here: http://www.marple.website/community-projects/town-centre-defibrillator-appeal.html

We will have to look again at the best location for the Town Centre one to ensure we get the best coverage possible from the available Defibs.

An app can't just be created like that. It takes, planning, skills and time. This costs money or goodwill. Plus it needs to be updated regularly with any changes.

It's far better to get existing apps updated with recent information. Someone's already done all the hard work and it will take a few moments to add any local equipment to an app's database.

Good Sam Alerter is pretty good as they go. Requires people to submit the locations and availabillity though
theres is a opertunity for some one to devise a app for this purpose that works no one from college or marple hall interested .or even you Mark .

There are a number of apps with this purpose already (nationwide coverage), such as Save-a-life, AED Locations and Nearest Defib, ready to download on the app store.

I tried several of those and none of them list any in Marple. On one the nearest was 15 miles away. I only tried the 3 or 4 top scoring Apps and in their reviews the main criticism was that they don't have very good coverage yet.

Thanks for this info, it's good to have it now so that we can take it into account on the positioning.
Idont know if anyone can do this or its a daft idea but could not someone devis a app for smart phone that covers the marple area saying were these Defibrillators are in Marple
or even surounding areas .

Not to take away from this specific scheme guys, but very shortly there will be a new Community Defib on the front of the fire station that will be accessible 24/7 via keypad lock box. Will this then mean that this defib will be a little close leaving less cover further up market street? Just wondering about best positioning?
