Here's an update on the 3rd-5th November 2017: Arts and Heritage Weekend at St Martin's Church

As we continue to celebrate 150 years of worship on the site of St Martin's Church, we have an Arts and Heritage weekend.

On Friday evening, 3rd November, in the Parish Hall at 7.30 we have a concert – cafe style - with refreshments and drinks available. The Cantus Bravura choir will entertain us with songs of yesteryear, both before and after the "Conversation with Margot". Margot Comer will reminisce on her life in Marple and at St. Martin's Vicarage, when her father, Rev. Harry Simmonds was Priest here in the late 1930s to early 1950s. She knew Fanny Marion Hudson. We hope listeners will join in with their memories too. Donations towards the evening will be welcomed.

On Saturday from 10.00-4.00 and Sunday 12.00-4.00 the church will be open for visitors to see artworks relating to Rev. Ann's recently completed tapestry. She based her design on an unused design for one of the windows by Christopher Whall, and invited a number of groups and individuals to interpret that design in different media– silk, threads, paint and paper. The completed works will be on display, together with displays by the Heritage Trust and other local organisations.

Drinks, cakes and biscuits will be available during each day.

Arts and Heritage Weekend at St Martins' Church: 3rd-5th November 2017:

St Martins' Heritage Trust will be running an Arts and Heritage Weekend in support of St Martin's 150th Anniversary celebrations. This follows on from the very successful Flower Festival in June, and again will serve to highlight the artistic heritage within the church but with a modern twist. The centrepiece of the Weekend will be a number of art works which have been commissioned from individuals and societies within the area taking as inspiration an unused design for a stained glass window by Christopher Whall. The works will include tapestry, silk painting and embroidery.

The weekend will start on Friday 3rd November with an evening of memories in words and music featuring Margaret Comer who is the daughter of Father Simmonds, vicar from 1938-1953, together with a concert by the Cantus Chamber Choir. Further information will be posted shortly.

The Church will be open from 10-4 on Saturday 4th November and from 12-4 on Sunday 5th November to view the artworks and exhibits of local and church history. As always, refreshments will be available.
