I think the smell was caused by what we used to call 'muck spreading'. i.e. A farmer is fertilising his fields organically.

And I thought it was the curry I had the other night

Driving through Otterspool on Saturday it smelt like an industrial strength stink bomb had been set off - a real powerful, sulphurous,  eggy smell. Far worse than driving past either of the sewage works on the M60.

Then Saturday evening back in Asda car park there was a distinct smell of manure.

Sorry but I am confused.  You blame central government for not investing in infrastructure they don't own and have no responsibility for, then go on some high and mighty "you are clearly too thick to understand" thing?

It's pretty simple.  The government absolved itself of responsibility in return for cash a long time ago.  Ergo it is not it's responsibility for the fact that United Utilities fails to invest decades later.

I would suggest that it is an obvious drains problem.

It is almost certainly being caused by the lack of resources needed to maintain a Victorian drainage system in 2017. These resources like all others resources have been greatly depleted by central government. Let us hope that it only manifests itself in a temporary bad smell. Things could get a lot worse.
