Marple Naturalists
Summer Walk, New Mills
Sunday  6th August 2017 2.30 pm start

Please note that this walk will be on the Sunday afternoon, rather than the normal first Wednesday evening in the month, since the evenings are beginning to draw in at this stage in the year.

We will be starting at the beginning of the path to the Millenial Bridge in New Mills, just below New Mills Central Station, where there is a reasonable amount of parking. There is a train from Marple to New Mills at 1401, reaching New Mills at 1409 or a 358 bus leaving from the Hollins shops at 1412, reaching New Mills Station at 1428 (please check these times, since timetables may change).

We’ll be going along the Millenial Bridge into the Torrs, looking at the geology and the water turbine, then along beside the Goyt to walk through the Goytside Nature Reserve and reach the canal.  Finally we pass the Swizells sweet factory and descend back across the Goyt to regain our starting point.  With any luck there should be at least some birds, flowers and insects around!
Length – about 2 miles.
Surfaces: generally reasonably smooth but may be a bit muddy in the Nature Reserve, depending upon the weather.
Gradients – modest except for a slight climb through the Reserve up to the canal. Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
