Just interested - was anyone on here involved in the work at the lime kilns as part of the "Operation Springclean" in the late '60s?

Hot lime mortar - its history and use in heritage

As part of our Open Day at Marple Lime Kilns, join Mark Womersley to learn about the product these kilns made - hot lime mortar - and its crucial function in the building of the canal network in Britain.

Mark will explain how lime mortar is made, and will trace the development of lime mortars and their use from the Roman Empire to the present day.

You can also see a kiln Mark has built at our Lime Kilns site, which we have used to create our own lime mortar - and, of course, you can see the ruins of Oldknow's Lime Kilns themselves. Book here...https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hot-lime-mortar-its-history-and-use-in-heritage-tickets-33219053082
