An album of photos of the Christmas Festivities over the weekend have now been added to the Virtual Tour with contributions from Arthur Procter and Jake Taylor.

There are hopefully more to come of Santa's arrival and Winter Wonderland. We need some of the Santa Dash if you took any...

MARPLE CHRISTMAS CRACKER

This is the 10th anniversary of this spectacular three-day event, organised for the whole family by Marple Business Forum.

On Friday 2 December Santa arrives in style by canal aboard the New Horizons narrowboat, gliding from Goyt Mill past the Ring o' Bells to the Social and Forces Club in Limekiln Lane. The bridge on Church Lane will be the first sighting of the jolly old gent. Torches are recommended as some of the paths are quite dark. He will be met by a Hazel Grove brass band along with carol singers. Sweets and glow sticks will be handed out to the children. The event starts at 6.30pm with Santa arriving 7pm; hot drinks and refreshments are available and drinks will also be available at the bar in the club.

On Saturday 3 December Santa and his helpers will leave Stationery Supplies at 9.45am and walk up Market Street to his Grotto, where he will be from 10am to 3pm. Visits to Santa will be FREE and each child will receive a small present.

The traditional Christmas street market will feature over 30 stalls complementing the festive activities offering original homemade gift ideas and freshly made hot food. The line-up of entertainment includes pupils from All Saints, Brabyns Prep school, Rose Hill, St Mary's primary school and High Lane primary schools, members of Marple based Carver Theatre, Marple Band and Hazel Grove Band.

Going walkabout around Marple will be the popular children's entertainer Barrington Powell. Visit Dasher and Prancer to enjoy a magical experience with REAL reindeer.

At 12.15pm there is a traditional carol service organised by Churches Together with carols accompanied by Hawk Green Band. To end the day at 3pm the very popular lantern procession will set off from the Christmas tree in Market Street.
