As a new resident in Marple I'd like to add to this strand what a great idea for the area the skate park is.  Yes it needs improvement and my three grandsons aged 14, 9 and 7 would be regular users on their visits.  None live locally but their local parks have great skateboard facilities. Why not get the local school children involved and see what they could contribute in ideas?

Thank you for your supportive comments and suggestions @salemoorgirl. We have had local young people very involved in the design and development of the skatepark. Users from Marple Hall School and older users too have been involved in our user group and consultations and helped us to develop the design brief and then score tenders and choose the design and contractor they liked best. Young people have also helped us to raise money with sponsored events and bag packing. You can catch up on the history of the project and current developments on the Friends of the Park web site here:

http://www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/projects/skate-park-improvements.html

Also on the project FB page: https://www.facebook.com/marpleskatepark/

The project has been running since 2011 and we have everything in place now including planning permission to build a new £100k facility and all except the final funds we need, now "only" another £16,500.

This thread is specifically an appeal to local businesses to get behind the project and is linked in with an article that appears in the current issue of the Marple Review. Some local busineses have given us fantastic help and they are all detailed on the web site too but there are many more local businesses who could help give that final boost we need.

Here are details of the brilliant businesses who have helped so far:

At Marple Area Committee Meeting tonight Marple Skatepark Development Project was awarded £1,500 from Area Flexibility Fund.

Thank you to Marple's 6 local Councillors for fantastic support! This takes Marple AC's contribution to the project to £2,500 when added to the award of £1,000 back in 2013.

Marple's local councillors have led by example. Thank you!

We now need more local businesses to step up alongside those who are already supporting us. Doesn't matter how much but please get involved.
