Presumably the farmer had initially agreed to it, otherwise the application would never have been submitted.  No doubt the prospect of being cold-shouldered by the people of Mellor made him think again.............

Application can be viewed at Page 12 of this URL

The proposed location of the map can be viewed at this URL, via multimap.  Worth zooming out a little to really see where it is.

Any objections have to be made by individual letter to the planning department no later than TUESDAY 26TH APRIL. There is a public meeting at the library on Wednesday 27th April but it will be TOO LATE for objections at that point.

The main objections need to be on environmental terms as the health issues have never prevented a mast erection (they have been allowed on both school and hospital sites)

PLEASE TAKE ACTION AT ONCE IF YOU WISH TO OBJECT TO THIS PROPOSAL BY WRITING TO THE PLANNING DEPT. AT THE ADDRESS BELOW- IT WILL HAPPEN IF NO-ONE ACTS.

There are concerns that the site is on green belt land, it is the only wild moorland in Stockport, the site is being considered for conservation status, home to various wildlife (curlews, bats, hares, sky larks), hosts various livestock, is a popular leisure resource.

Letters to object to:     Steven Lamb,
                                    Planning Dept,
                                    Hygarth House
                                    103 Wellington Road South,
                                    Stockport     SK1 3TT

For those who are fond of our views around Marple, or whose mobile is on Orange, this planning application may be of interest.   As ever, I believe the full details are available at Marple Library, but here is a summary:

Land at Higher Birchenough Farm, Cobden Edge, Mellor.
Proposal:Erection of 8m (including antenna) mast with 600mm dish plus associated equipment cabinets
Information Office:Marple Library,Memorial Park,
Applicant:Orange PCS Ltd C/o Agent
GRID REFERENCE IN FULL:SJ98855,88098

If you check this grid reference you'll see that the proposed mast is not actually on what many of us call Cobden Edge (i.e. by the cross), but next to a farm which is up the fields on the right as you drive up through Moor End.

I think there is still time to object.
