Hello MLHS,

Thank you for reminding us of this.

We do of course tend to overlook the 'part' that Manchester played in the 1940 'Christmas blitz.'

A stirring photograph, whatever your perspective. It is of course a cliché, but a picture often says a thousand words and this picture does exactly that.

Manchester Evening News has an online set of articles describing the Manchester Christmas Blitz of 1940.

From the articles lead in...
"Manchester and Salford were bombed for three consecutive days in 1940 between December 22 and 24. The devastation left more than 800 people dead and 50,000 homes damaged."

Apparently people gathered on the Ridge to view the attacks on Manchester, during WW2.
