Is this even necessary? is there a problem with people smoking in kids play areas? What is the intention here - to put up some signs and say "job done"?

I would also like to new ALL benches and paths within 3m of a branch being smoked free.

Could you translate that for us, ringi?  ;-)

No doubt this is well-intentioned, but I'm not sure it's a great idea.  Surely if parents who smoke are discouraged from doing so when they take their kids to the park, even though it can't be doing the kids or anyone else any harm, then they are more likely to rush off home for a fag and subject their children to passive smoking behind closed doors, or in their cars.   :-\

Smokefree Play Areas in Parks

The Council is currently consulting on proposals to determine if the public would support the adoption of Smokefree Play Areas in Stockport parks.

This would be voluntary code and would not be legally enforceable, however it's asking people to refrain from smoking around children in an environment that is designed for them.

You can have your say by completing the council's online questionnaire: https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=143809016229

The consultation will run until 26th October. If you have further queries, please email: smokefree@stockport.gov.uk
