Friends of Marple Memorial Park's WWI Timeline Tribute display in the park has been updated with information about Granville Taylor and Wilfred Greenwood.

Granville Taylor was the village postman and there is hardly anyone more widely mourned as everyone in Marple knew him. Despite a severe attack of pneumonia in 1917 Wilfred was accepted for service and then sent to Egypt - perhaps the worst place for anyone susceptible to poor health - and died of Typhoid with only weeks to go until the end of the war.

Friends of Marple Memorial Park's WWI Timeline Tribute display in the park has been updated with information about William Duxbury.

Almost nothing is known about William's connection to Marple. Regimental records indicate that he was born in Mellor and his home was in Hyde and there may be a family connection to James Duxbury (died 4 April 1917).

Over the weekend Friends of the Park had a dry run fitting 141 knitted poppies on the war memorial handrails - one for each man remembered from WWI.

These will be back in November for Remembrance 2018. Didn't they look great!
