As usual the festival was excellent although I do think there were slightly fewer stalls this year than at previous events.

My personal highlights were the excellent breads at All Things Nice and the allotment stall where I picked up a few veg that aren't commonly sold (the purple cauliflower, for example). Best of both worlds for the town and me; full stomach, empty wallet!

In image number 34 the young lady who was playing the guitar outside of Iceland was pretty good. She hit so many high notes spot on.
Quite talented and lastly my belly would like to thank the young smoothie makers; that banana and strawberry was nice.

Winner of the "Guess the Sweets" Competition Libby has just collected her prize. The correct number of sweets was exactly 200 and these will be shared with Libby's classmates at school and possibly at the cricket club if there's any left! The competition raised £67 for the skatepark project.

Food and Drink Festival Update:

Saturday 13 September sees the eighth Marple Food and Drink Festival in Market Street and Derby Way, in the centre of Marple. It will start at 10am and go on until 4pm, with the Mayor visiting at 11am.

The Festival will showcase the fine food offer of Marple from great meat, superb artisan bread and cakes, sparkling fresh fish, tempting deli food and much, much more. Many of the stalls will be offering cooked food and the cafes of Marple will all have special menus to tempt you.

Music has always been a key part of the Festival and this year will be no exception. Marple Band will again be centre stage along with the buskers that have been such an attractive part of previous Festivals. For younger music lovers there will be Marplebury featuring live, local bands.

There's also a chance to get more involved. Why not enter the Samuel Oldknow Pie competition with either a savoury or dessert pie? Or grow a giant marrow and enter our new Heaviest Marrow Competition?

And the kids are not forgotten. As part of Marplebury there will be rides and slides for younger children.

It's truly a family day out for all. See you on 13 September!

MARPLE FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL 2014

The eighth Marple Food and Drink Festival will be on Saturday 13 September this year so put the date in your diary now!

There will be the usual mix of stalls celebrating the top-class food offer that is Marple, from local meat, artisan bread, fresh fish, fine deli food and fine wines and beers to cooked food representing England, Spain, India, Italy and more.

It will be a day out for all the family with music, featuring Marple Band, the Music in Hospitals buskers and Marplebury contemporary music; there will be face painting, the Robinson's dray horse, and a folk group arriving via Rose Hill station and the Stockport Classic Bus. Amateur pie-makers will be competing in the famous Samuel Oldknow Pie Competition. The gardeners of Marple and beyond will need no encouragement to enter the new, 'Heaviest Marrow' competition. With a flourishing Allotments Association in Marple, expect some mega-marrow entries.

Rick Morris, leading organiser said: "This will be the eighth Marple Food & Drink Festival. It is testament to the original organisers, back in 2007, that it has truly become a major event in the Marple calendar. As usual, we expect to have 25-30 top class food stalls, showcasing Marple food at its best and lots to attract all the family. It will again be a great day out."

"The traders of Marple want to see this event become an annual fixture in the calendar, so we have refreshed the organising team with some welcome new faces and some new ideas. We expect 2014 to be the best Food & Drink Festival yet."
