Thanks for sharing these photos.

One of our initial ideas for the FOMS group is to display photos, possibly a timeline, along the back wall of the waiting room.

If you have any images and know anything about the history of the station then your input would be gratefully received.

Hopefully the bridge wasn't affect negatively. What happened to the bridge out of curiosity?

That'll be this bridge.  Click for bigger pic.

Bridge itself went to Peak Rail museum

It's a pity no-one thought of this before British Railways ripped out and scrapped, for melting down, the wrought ironwork at Marple Station, which featured in a number of books on both railway and general architecture as a prime example of it's type. Unfortunately, there was no-one available then to raise a fuss and get it protected.

Myself and a fellow resident of Marple are looking to set up a Friends of Marple Station group. We are at the very early stages but we have made inquiries with the Station Manager who supports our efforts and plan to meet in March to formalize the group and assign key roles.

Our common statement going forward is to involve the community in Marple Station through local project which enhance its environment and peoples experience of its as a destination. We hope to encourage greater participation and hope to provide a diverse range of facilities and services which cater for all. Where necessary we will try to influence and identify improvements which benefit those that use the station.

Should you be interested in finding out more and/or joining the group in any capacity then please email friendsofmarplestation@gmail.com
