COMMUNITY ARCHAEOLOGY DIG AT MELLOR MILL

Mellor Archaeological Trust (MAT) and the Canal and River Trust (CRT) are joint partners in the HLF grant funded Revealing Oldknow’s Legacy – Mellor Mill and the Peak Forest Canal in Marple project.

MAT is responsible for revealing the remains of Mellor Mill and presenting them as a small country park with an Industrial Heritage theme.

MAT invites interested volunteers to take part in a Community Dig during the period 1st – 20th June 2014.

This will be an exciting opportunity for volunteers with some archaeological experience to hone their skills and add new ones.   If you don’t have any previous experience you will receive training in the skills you need from qualified and experienced archaeologists.

Mellor Mill site is situated within 10 minutes walk of Marple Rail Station and is convenient for bus services.   For those who wish to arrive by car there will be adequate parking provided within a 10 minute walk.

All equipment will be provided leaving you free to turn up in suitable clothing, stout footwear, a pair of gardening gloves and your lunch/drinks.

Further details will be available when the archaeological contractors for the project have been appointed.   In the meantime, please register your interest with Bob Humphrey-Taylor by email: bob@MATrust.org.uk or telephone: 07710 964046
