Over extended beyond belief!  However next time positions come up, I will! Love the Carnival and all it stands for and what it does for our village.

Marple Carnival's web site has been updated with a message from outgoing Chairman John Wright about the funding distributed in 2013 and an appeal for support and volunteers for 2014.

I'd like to add that it's great fun to be on the committee, we're a good bunch of people who like to have a laugh  :)

For a flavour of what to expect then why don't you come and see us in action at our AGM on 4th November at 8pm. If you want details then email us: marplecarnival@gmail.com.

Or come and say hi at the next Carnival car boot sale. It's the last one of the year on Sunday 27th October. We have a stall at the entrance and wear red tops, so we are easy to spot! We can talk to you about the roles that are available, they are varied and so I'm sure there will be something to suit your skills.

Finally, if you don't want to be on the committee but can spare a few hours on Carnival day then also please make us aware via email.

First of all, a huge thank you to Marple Carnival Committee for selecting Friends of Marple Memorial Park (Skate Park Project) for this year's Special Award of £1,000. The cheque was received by FoMMP at the Carnival Presentation Evening last Friday 11 October, although of course the selection was announced in the 2013 Carnival programme.

A total of £5,000 in all was distributed to local charities and good causes on Friday by retiring Chairman John Wright, his team of local volunteers and the young ladies of Marple Carnival "Royals". Here's a set of photos taken during the presentation evening by Arthur P:

However, the most important part of this message is that following the retirement this year of four key committee members, including the Chairman and Vice Chair / Stalls Officer (on top of several key members who retired last year too) the Carnival is probably at highest risk it has been in the last 20 years of not having enough volunteers to continue in 2014.

So everyone who enjoys Marple Carnival and wants to see it continue next year and in the future - please think seriously about whether you can help. Watch this space for announcements of Carnival Committee meetings and recruitment in the coming weeks and months.
