Stockport Council is reminding dog owners to clear up after their pets after a Marple resident was fined by Stockport Magistrates last week (19th June). The woman allowed a dog in her possession to foul, and she failed to pick up after it. The offence occurred on Middlewood Way, Marple, on 8 February this year. Magistrates ordered the woman to pay £463.26.
The Council’s Dog Warden Service receives between 600-700 dog fouling complaints every year.
Dog waste can be disposed of in general waste bins, designated dog bins and with household waste. Plastic bags, nappy sacks and bin liners are all readily available and suitable for picking up and disposing of dog waste.
If you know someone who lets their dog foul in your area or times when the fouling is occurring, contact the Dog Warden Service on 0161 474 4207. You can also text the service if you witness someone failing to pick up after their dog on 07624 805 662. Text messages cost your standard network rate.
Due to the presence of the Toxocara worm in some faeces, there are potential health effects associated with dog fouling. Ingestion of untreated foul can result in the onset of the disease Toxocariasis in humans which young children are most susceptible to. In the worst case scenarios, this disease can result in partial or full blindness.
